Random Antique Fact!

"Blazing a trail" is actually a surveyor's term later adopted by explorers and pioneers. To cut down a tree was to "blaze" it. So when a surveyor needed a clear line of sight through the forest to measure out the land, they blazed a trail (a straight line of sight).
